Stay without visa in Beijing and Shanghai China for 72 hours

A recent tourism incentive has come about on the part of China as they seek to increase the already growing numbers of visitors to the country. Normally one has to go to a China Visa Center for a normal tourist visa. Now a person transiting via Beijing Capital International Airport and Shanghai Pudong & Hongqiao Airports can apply for a 72 hour transit visa in the airport itself. One needs to show the transit ticket (proof one is continuing on to the next country within the permitted time) and if one needs a visa to enter that country the appropriate visa.

This is a great advantage for those countries to whom it has been granted and it will serve to make China even more accessible to tourists transiting through their impressive airports. Many airlines are cooperating by offering increased routes and flights which stop in these cities.

The 72-hour Visa-free Transit Policy is valid for passport holders from the following countries as of the date of publication:
Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Russia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Brunei, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
