Marriott Los Suenos Costa Rica: an oasis on the pacific coast

Some of the most beautiful beach destinations in Costa Rica are located on the Pacific ocean side. Marriott Los Suenos is an amazing property in Playa Herradura, close to the famous Jaco Beach. This is a first class hotel with all the facilities that a discerning traveler may come to expect from such promising properties.

This is actually the second opportunity we have been in Los Suenos. During the winter months (in local terms the rainy season) the rates drop dramatically, but the hotel maintains the same good standard of services. Check- in has always been done fast and friendly. The personnel have a great command of English and they are really attentive. The first impression of the hotel is really nice, it resembles more an ancient Spaniard hacienda. The Marriott is part of a bigger complex that includes private residences, a golf course, a marina, and a little shopping center.

We always have been offered a spacious room, with breathtaking views of the beach. In these winter months one can expect rain almost every afternoon, but most of the mornings one will enjoy sunny blue skies perfect to explore the beach and the many gardens around.

There are several options to eat. Some of the rates include breakfast, and I have to say that it is a good idea to have it since there is offered an amazing variety of food, including many healthy options and local Costa Rican delicacies. There are several restaurants in the hotel itself and one can explore the little shopping center that offers other good culinary options from a sports bar, to upscale Italian and Japanese restaurants among others.

Facilities are excellent. The outdoor pool is an amazing place for relaxation. This pool has been included in several features by diverse travel publications among the best hotel pools of the world. The sea is breathtaking, on sunny mornings the water turns deep blue and the surrounding tropical rainforest transports the visitor to an authentic Garden of Eden. The funny thing is that the beach itself is not the best since the sand here is dark and volcanic, but the beauty is in the views from any corner of the hotel. There is as well a very nice spa that includes steam baths, sauna, relaxation areas and Jacuzzis with tropical views, the only downside is that it is not included in the rate –something we really do not appreciate- the day pass is 10 USD.

The concierge can arrange daily tours to distant places as far away as Monteverde or the Arenal volcano, something not to miss are the many zip lines in the surrounding mountains. Those looking for a little more active nightlife can explore the neighboring area of Jaco with a more bohemian feeling and many backpackers, but there are as well good restaurants and abundant pubs.

Los Suenos is an excellent hotel, a place to relax and enjoy, a paradise for golfers and nature lovers. This hotel delivers good quality lodging in a true five star environment.
