Intercontinental has taken up a strong presence in China and even in places which may seem far off the tourism radar, hotels are open, luxurious and booming with business. A great example of this is the Intercontinental Shijiazhuang.
This populous city of the Hebei province is just a few hours from Beijing and occupies a pleasant spot on the wide open ranges of China’s North Central Plains. Mystic little towns and nearby mountains with scenic monasteries are quite the attraction for those looking to explore. The Intercontinental Shijiazhuang lives up to the high luxury standard of its brand and uniquely captures the Chinese virtues of elegance and hospitality, all for what one will find to be very low prices. The hotel still has that feeling of newness, its dimensions are superbly grand and its setting within the Shijiazhuang Wanda Plaza complex is a guarantee of its cosmopolitan feel, splendid arrangement and high quality standards.
From the moment we entered the lobby the hotel was a sight to behold. Rich crystal chandeliers, typical blends of rare stone, mixed fabrics, rich ornaments and princely trimmings of gold and precious metals occupy every conceivable space. Staff possesses a good command of English and especially considering that they deal for the most part with local guests rather than outsiders. In fact we found many to be gracious, genuinely interested and eager to converse. Check in was quick and our room benefits and specifics were made known to us. We booked an executive room in order to have access to the lounge. This is a great option if one is considering it. The lounge is spacious and relaxing. It is an ideal place to read, enjoy snacks throughout the day and a happy hour drink and hot food service in the evening.
The room was furnished with a blend of rich dark woods and marbles. The beds were soft and dreamy, the Internet functioned well, ample closet space, floor to ceiling windows and heavy upholstery made it seem very classical, yet comfy. The bathroom had a soaking tub with a full glass wall giving the room seemingly larger dimensions. The room had fully integrated technology from TV, to lights at the touch of a button from the bedside.
The hotel’s fitness facility was brand new with a good range of machines and it occupies a modern and central place on the fifth floor. Besides this there is a scenic indoor pool and Jacuzzi area. There is a spa facility on the same level offering a variety of treatments. The first several floors offer high end dining locations, elegant meeting rooms and grand ball rooms.. The location overall is good situated in downtown Shijiazhuang, It offers excellent environs being set in a massive development project of malls, apartments and social spaces. It delivers a quality accommodation with essential luxury experiences for what amounted to only $100 USD per night for a double bed in a club level room, an excellent bargain compared to what one would pay for this anywhere else in the world. The Intercontinental is one of the best options in Shijiazhuang and even a great reason to go and explore this largely unknown metropolis.
