Hotel Review: JW Marriott Marquis Miami

main

Luxury hotels in Miami are a dime a dozen. At nearly every intersection one can find another world renowned name looking to scoop up the beachgoers and sun seekers, the conference attendees and the executive travelers. In such a swirl of competition it takes more than just costlier furnishings to stand out, it takes creativity in the hotel experience and this is what the JW Marriott Marquis does very well.

The best way to summarize the hotel is that it covers a vast array of lifestyle needs. It is not just a palace of a skyscraper, but a place where art, design, fashion, well being, recreation and gastronomy can all be found in one tower. The massive structure  seems to have more going on vertically than many beach resorts do horizontally and that’s necessary in the downtown business and banking quarter of a major city.

First Impressions:

From the moment of pulling up to the entrance a team of valets swooped in to get the doors and luggage before you’ve even stepped out of the car. A wide lobby with a spacious check in desk makes things go swiftly and most importantly the staff are all around upbeat and smiling. This is a lasting impression of the place, for a hotel so big it is nice to see they are well staffed and staff are pleasant. When occupancy is high with conferences etc. there may be a bit of a wait for the frank desk and concierge. For those with status and points this is a great property at which to make use of them. We found the staff ready and willing to make an upgrade so don’t be afraid to ask for one.

Accomodations:

Rooms are breathtaking. The nicest part is the sheer abundance of space. In a packed city skyline the construction was made with giving an apartment style view to the occupants. The room possesses major technological integration with two full sized TV’s in the room, light, airflow and room service buttons, and a vanity mirror with inserted tv in the bathroom. A full sized desk work area makes the living quarters functional and the bathrooms are spacious with a soaking tub and walk-in shower. The beds have the signature Marriott feel of relaxation with several featherbed pillows and duvet. An Illy espresso maker in the room complements the mini bar offerings and wall to wall and floor to ceiling windows give an added measure of space. The housekeeping service was excellent each day and nightly turndown service was spectacular.

Activities:

A host of thrilling attractions and destinations make the inside of the hotel the center for lifestyle expressions. There is a full court basketball gym set up on the 19th floor. On the same floor is a rooftop stainless steel pool deck, a Jim Mclean golf school, bowling lanes, cinema, and a billiards room. A full service salon and spa along with a 24 hour gym complete the circuit of active and recreational perks. The hotel has an upper floor lounge accessible to guests with a certain room type or rewards status. One can enjoy breakfast in the lounge along with hors d’oeuvres in the evening. There are two lunch and dinner restaurants on site, a wine shop as well as two breakfast places.

The JW Marriott Marquis has captured the hearts of many because it strives to make the guest feel welcome and at home. There’s no sense feeling out of place when looking for a place to stay, here one can enjoy a variety of lifestyle options on any given floor.
