Hotel Review: Imperial Riding School Renaissance Vienna Hotel

imperialwien1

As the former home of the Imperial Riding School, the Renaissance hotel in Vienna (one of two) captures a classical chapter of history while providing an excellent standard of business luxury and service for an affordable price (especially in Vienna). The hotel is not at the bustling center of town, but for those who like to walk it is only a 15-20 minute jaunt, while a taxi ride would be 10 Euros to the center.

Conveniently the hotel sits just near the Belvedere Palace, a place of spectacular gardens, immense cultural prestige and wide open spaces the most inner city just can’t afford. The city transit system is all around and within walking distance is the Vienna State Opera. The hotel hosts almost 350 rooms, all built into the framework of the classical school. The lobby has exquisite ceilings and powerful columns. The ancient stables and other spaces have been turned into stylized modern hangouts. The staff of the hotel were extremely friendly and forthcoming in every capacity.

Having undergone a renovation in 2013, the hotel’s rooms are Viennese elegant, with modern traits of simplicity and style. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean which gives it a fresh feel and atmosphere. The category level in the Marriott system is 6 which can make this a good place to spend rewards nights and even out of season rates for a little over 100 Euros a night is a really competitive rate for this costly capital.

Rooms are now creative spaces on par with the hotel’s majestic public confines. The relaxation effect is directly linked to the lack of any exterior noise. As rewards members we received some good upgrades. There are guest rooms, club rooms, junior suite and imperial level rooms and suites. There is an Imperial club lounge which has breakfast, snacks and desserts available all day. A common complaint is the lack of in room WiFi which the hotel says it is planning to address. The breakfast buffet is also varied and tasty.

As far as the hotel amenities go, there are opportunities for health, relaxation and fitness. There is an indoor pool gym, sauna, solarium, and steam bath. Massages can be requested as well. An outdoor courtyard dining and picnic area adds a nice touch in warmer weather and up to 15 meeting rooms make for good business and socialization venues.
