Hotel Review: Gran Melia Jakarta

Finding an excellent hotel in Jakarta’s Golden Triangle is by no means a difficult task. The city has a great range of options which are enough for many trips to the capital. The Gran Melia stands out however for it spacious nature of the hotel and the overall dedication to providing quality service.

Gran Melia is a chain whose reputation needs no introduction. Their properties embody a sophisticated taste of luxury and refinement across the globe and Jakarta is no exception. The hotel is very easily identifiable in the diplomatic and business district of the city. It is easy to reach via public bus and is connected by walkways to nearby luxury hotels such as the JW Marriott or the Ritz Carlton. What’s more the security to access the hotel is tight as is customary in Jakarta, but the staff are very respectful and unintrusive.

Best Features:

The best feature of the hotel is apparent right from the start. Space is a luxury in good supply. The lobby is massive and grand. From the reception area one can see several levels of public spaces, restaurants, bars and coffee shops as well as places to chat or relax. Many of the guest room floors look out over this atrium as well. The front desk staff are located in a ornate area of marbled stone floors and counters which makes check in pleasant.

The hotel is certainly aimed at the business traveler, but leisure guests can find it to be a great benefit too. The lower floors boast Tien Chao and Yoshi Izakaya This Chinese and Japanese restaurant respectively have dishes which are renowned in Jakarta for their excellent cuisine and fine dining surroundings. The lobby lounge and cafe Gran via are perfect spots for all day dining, drinks and snacks.  Many guests give stellar reviews to the breakfast buffet for its eclectic collection of foods.

There are 407 rooms and suites total, this includes: 2 Presidential Suites, 33 Suites, Red Level Rooms, 217 Premium Rooms and 99 Deluxe Rooms. Red level rooms are particularly attractive because they occupy the 14th-16th floors and provide access to the club level lounge on the 14th floor. Benefits include food and beverage access in the lounge, complimentary ironing for pieces of clothing, free wifi, a complimentary welcome drink and fruit basket on arrival. Rooms are modern, stylish and well furnished. The spacious nature of all the sizes of rooms is readily apparent.

Hotel Spas in Jakrta are a top notch priority and it is no different here. The Yhi spa offers a wide range of treatments for very good prices. There are steam bath facilities as well as a good gym. The hotel has a resort style lagoon pool which can easily help one forget the bustle of a major city outside the property. The hotel is very well staffed so that one doesn’t have to look far for directions or needs to be met.
