Hilton As Cascatas: Algarve, Portugal

villamoura1Algarve is a beautiful region in the South of Portugal that has become very well known in recent years for the beauty of the sea and its nature, the richness of the local heritage, the first class facilities and the excellent local and international cuisine. A multitude of hotels are located here and of course there are properties for all types of budgets and even for the most demanding travelers. This time we decided to stay at the Hilton as Cascadas.

It is located in Villamoura, just 25 minutes from Faro, the main city of Algarve. The international airport of Faro receives many flights from destinations all around Europe. Renting a car is a good option, since the prices of the rentals are affordable and gas is cheap in comparison with other European countries. The only problem is the electronic tolls, so one has to be very well informed about how to use these and for that yu may want to read our article about dealing with tolls in Portugal.

The Hilton is not located on the beach itself, it takes around five minutes driving from the hotel to the beach club, an excellent facility run by the hotel. There are some free shuttles so one can reach the sea with little hassle.

The hotel has been open since 2007 but it still looks like brand new. We were there in the very low season and of course only a few people were there but the service of the Hilton was still very good. Check in was efficient and we were offered a great upgrade to a family suite that is an amazingly spacious room with separate living rooms and two showers and toilets. The decoration of the room is modern with a combination of local influences and Portuguese tiles. We had two balconies with views of the golf course. We came to know that there are almost 200 rooms that go from the standard rooms to family apartments with kitchenette included.

The hotel offers several outdoor swimming pools and a semi-indoor heated pool. The gym is modern and has good equipment. One of the most impressive facilities was the Spa, it is in a separate building that guests can reach through a tunnel. We have not seen such amazing spas around here until this one. There are relaxing pools, steam baths with different fragrances and saunas among other facilities. It is a worthwhile place to spend hours. It is not free, but the day pass price is acceptable. Gold and platinum members of the Hilton Loyalty program receive complementary entry to the Spa.

Breakfast was served in the main restaurant in the lobby. The selection of ingredients and the freshness of the products offered was really impressive. There are other dinning venues on the property among these is highlighted: Cilantro, a perfect option for those who want to enjoy local and Latin American delicacies.

To be honest, it is hard to find something to criticize in this hotel. Service was prompt and efficient, the place has been kept in pristine conditions, internet was super fast. Many people would prefer it if the hotel is located next to the beach, for me it is just as well where it is. Being such a great place and offering a beach club I do not miss the beachside life that can be lousy at times.

The rate that we got trough the internet was  very affordable, and this is good news for those who like to enjoy peace and tranquility and great hotels such as this. The low season not only makes these places very quiet, but the prices are impressively low. Actually the only critique that I heard from people who visited the place in summer is that it can get a little expensive and very overcrowded so why wait? The nice thing of Villamoura and Algarve in general is that even when the rest of Europe may be freezing, the weather here is amazing with blue skies and sunny days almost every day of the year.
