Copa Lounge at Tocumen International Airport Panama

IMG_7622

Since Tocumen International airport is known as the hub of the Americas it certainly is an airport that is well suited to the needs of many connecting travelers from all around the America’s and beyond. Still it is a place that seems to be always in flux, always expanding and with good reason, it is a central and well routed place through which to travel.

For those in the Star Alliance network, United Mileage plus and Copa rewards programs who have frequent flier status or those wishing to pay outright, the Copa Lounge at Tocumen is a great place to spend downtime in a relaxed and spacious lounge. The check in is well served and friendly. The process never takes more than a couple minutes and the staff are good about giving you a wifi-password and directions around the lounge. There is a full service bar with complementary drinks, another food sections with a range of snacks such as breakfast foods, crackers, cheeses, fruits and hot drinks.

At peak hours the lounge can be quite full, but the layout and floor to ceiling windows overlooking the runway allow the space to be well lit and seem more open still. The capacity of 246 seats are comfortable with small tables, plenty of outlets and the internet connectivity is fast. There are several publications of newspaper and magazine available in Spanish and English. TV’s displayed all around allow one to see the departing flights in a single glance. Restrooms are clean and even some private work cubicles in another room allow for further privacy. Free local calls, photocopy and fax services are also available. There is a storage room as well for bigger items brought in. There are also shower facilities available upon request and a playroom for children.

Copa is quite generous in their conditions for the use of the lounge in comparison with other airlines and rewards programs, so be sure to check your ticket or inquire if you have access. There are many conditions depending on if you are part of their partner alliances and which type of flight it is. The cost of a day pass is $50 USD. The lounge hours are from 5:15am till 10:00pm each day.

It’s 3:00 pm. I’ve been in the Copa Club at Tocument for an hour and will be here for several more. All I have been able to find to snack on is a piece of cheese and a bag of Doritos. Since I’m here on a one-use pass that came with my credit card, I can’t get back in if I leave to get something to eat. Compared to other lounges, the offerings are very skimpy. Don’t spend $50 for wi fi and a comfortable chair.

    1. Hi Patricia,

Thanks very much for your update

In our several experiences the lounge provided a little bigger range of snacks and drinks as we related in the article, sometimes we noticed there were not many snacks specially during times with more traffic.

We agree that Copa / United can improve the selection of snacks and food they offer in their lounges.
