The Aloft hotel just outside KL Sentral, the city’s main transit hub fits the location perfectly. It lives up to the needs and wants of vacationing and busy travelers while providing for the most convenient needs of rest, cuisine and location.
Our first impression of the hotel was how easily it can be accessed from KL Sentral. One simply follows the walkway out of the main station across the street or approach from the adjacent mall escalators. Upon arrival the check in line was quite packed and it moved rather slowly. Still a friendly porter took our bags aside and provided refreshing drinks at regular intervals while we waited in line. Strangely we were told the room would not be ready for hours (it was quite past normal check in time at this point) but with insistence on the late hour we were given a room then and there.
The hotel is a spacious enterprise hosting 482 rooms from the 5th till 29th floors. The design is a combination of bright lights and colors with modern and minimal furnishings. It looks hip and artsy all the while being functional and uplifting. There is free and fast WiFi found all around the building and the signal stays strong throughout. The rooms have a large bed, integrated sound system, a plug and play desk and entertainment center. Views for the most part comprise the unique skyscrapers of downtown Kuala Lumpur.
If one is in transit or staying for some time there are plenty of venues at which to enjoy good food and beverages. The re:fuel is the most basic, it is a mini market that has a good range of breakfast and snack foods for purchase with a penchant for healthier options. W XYZ bar is the signature spot for trendy drinks, sports viewing events and billiards. Nook is the 2nd floor restaurant with a futuristic look and an inclusive menu. A well established gym offers a range of exercise equipment for every style of workout.
The rooftop is one of the hotel’s biggest social attractions. It is the site of an open air pool with stunning panoramic views of the downtown area. Pool party events and live music are regular features here and the signature Malaysian Princess Mai Tai drink is the best of what Mai Bar has to offer. Overall the hotel gives a great social scene, above average hotel amenities, good wired technology and an optimum location for one or several night stays.
